Michelle Mach challenged more than 20 designers to take this blue sparkly, blingy glass bead stretch bracelet and make it into something hip and wearable for Spring. I was up for the challenge!
Here's the challenge bracelet with the materials I picked out for my project. Here we have an orange silk ribbon from Marsha Neal Studio, 1mm waxed cotton cord and a fancy copper toggle clasp. When I was thinking about my design, I knew right away that I wanted to add Pantone's 2012 color of the year, tangerine tango to my piece. Perfect for Spring. Look at those colors pop!
Suddenly Spring 2012
Here is my finished piece! I kept it a bracelet. I decided to omit the silver crystal spacers that were on the original version. I used the waxed cotton cord to string the blue faceted glass roundelles. Then, I knotted the silk ribbon around the beads in a square knot.

Sweet! I love the addition of the beautiful orange silk. The color combination is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow Erin - it is awesome! i must admit, I saw the original bracelet and wondered just how good it could be made to look....but you really have done it here! Stunning, chic and boho.
ReplyDeleteGreat color combo. I love the use of the orange ribbon in the piece. I'm going to make a point this year of using more ribbons, cords and fibers and can't wait for your book to come out to see some tips and techniques. I just don't have the confidence I need to do more with fiber. I love this piece.
ReplyDeleteI have visited a few blogs now and so far not many used the spacers. What an innovative way to use the orange ribbon.
ReplyDeleteOh I love love love!
ReplyDeleteTurquoise color and orange is one of my favorite color combos. This is a wonderful, bright, completely wearable bracelet. Beautiful, Erin!

Oh. Uhm... wow! (stares in awe and tries to figure out how!?) I love this! What a wonderful use of the ribbon. You have GOT to teach me how you did that!
ReplyDeleteErin - I just keep staring at your bracelet and saying: "Wow"! Love the color combo. I don't know how you managed to wrap the silk around the beads like that, but it sure looks great!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I am *amazed* after working so hard on your book that you keep coming up with new, fresh ideas for how to use ribbon! Thanks for joining the challenge!

Erin, your design is so fresh and invigorating, it makes me want to get into something crisp and white while I put away all my winter clothes - permanently!
ReplyDeleteSo clever and creative....what a great way to use ribbon. The tangerine is gorgeous with the blue. I adore your bracelet!!
ReplyDeleteLove love love the ribbon! I like how you've knotted the ribbon between the beads, so effective. Tangerine Tango is slowly becoming one of my fav colours to use as an accent not just for Spring but for Summer as well. Those spacer were a bit of a problem for me as well, although I found throwing a couple in a pair of earrings worked for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is to die for! I'm so in love with this color combo. Very smart! What a perfect compliment to the dress and sandals...it has me thinking of Summer.

ReplyDeleteThis bracelet is charming and joyful. You're very inventive.
If I won these beads, I would make... decoration of my summer dress with them.
