LOVE Color Block Bracelet Tutorial

It's time to show you my Ornamentea.com designer project for February! Click the link to go to the tutorial for my LOVE Color Block Bracelets. These are cute and right on trend. This little bracelet would be perfect any time of year. Color blocking is still a hot trend. I love creating segments of color with wraps of waxed linen cord, like this. I also can't get enough of these faceted cube beads. LOVE!

Ingredients

- 1 Love Charm
- 23 filed cube beads
- 1 9mm lobster clasp
- 1 5mm jump ring
- 1 2" head pin
- 1" of extender chain
- 24" of Irish waxed linen (I used Cobalt)
- 2 18" pieces of Irish waxed linen cord (I used Garnet and Petunia)

Tools

- Scissors
- Ruler
- Chain nose pliers
- Round nose pliers

1. String the lobster clasp to the center of the 24" piece of waxed linen cord. Use both cords to form an overhand knot after the clasp as shown.

 2. Use both cords to form an overhand knot 2" from the previous knot. Use both cords to string 22 filed cubes. Attach the jump ring to the LOVE charm. Close the jump ring and string it over the filed cubes. Use both cords to form an overhand knot after the cubes as shown.

 3. Use both cords to string the extender chain. Use both cords to form a slip knot 2" from the previous knot as shown. Trim to 1/4".

 4. Use one 18" piece of linen cord to form a square knot at one end of the bracelet as shown. Wrap the linen cord around the base of the bracelet until you reach the knot. Use the cord to form an overhand knot around the bracelet. Form another overhand knot against the last knot as shown. Trim to 1/4".

5. Repeat step 4 for the other side of the bracelet.

 6. Use 1 headpin to string 1 filed cube; form a wrapped loop that attaches to the end of the extender chain as shown.

Waxed Linen Jewelry

Well, I know it's been a little quiet around here, especially on the jewelry front! I did manage to make a few new pieces recently. Of course, they are created with my favorite material, waxed linen cord!

 Linen Blossom

This first necklace is a delicate piece with green agate rounds and new jade wire-wrapped dangles braided into the waxed line cord for the necklace. The pendant is an Earthenwood Studio flower bead with wrapped dangles of green agate, new jade and carnelian. The closure is also an Earthenwood bead.

 Night Magic

This next piece is a fun multi-strand bracelet! Eight strands of blue waxed linen cord beaded with hues of blue seed beads. The cool button closure is from Green Girl Studios. I used an easy technique to create the button loop that I will be sharing in the upcoming book! I hope you will be looking forward to it!

Linen Hoop Earrings

Linen and Lace Hoop Earrings

Here's the first piece of jewelry I made from the little bead stash I got from Diana. (See my previous post) These hoop earrings look kinda funky and punky, don't you think?  I made a circle frame for these earrings out of 18 gauge sterling wire, then wrapped the frames with black waxed linen and small faceted black onyx beads. I've had this linen wrapped hoop idea for a while. Diana's ceramic charms were the perfect motivation to actually execute the idea!  I knew her pieces would be the perfect focals to hang from the center! The charms here are porcelain with a lace impression.  I'd love to make some more of these in some different color combination! You can check out more of Diana's work in her Etsy shop. Summer Brights Bracelet

I picked up a new color of waxed linen cord at the bead shop, the other day. I saw this charcoal gray color and knew it would go perfect with Keith O'Connor's ceramic beads! I love his beads and ceramic works so well with this bracelet style. These colors just make me so happy!  I'm having too much fun making these waxed linen bracelets! Happy summer beading, everyone! :)

An Ocean of Favorites

 Ocean Depths Bracelet

 The beads and colors of this bracelet remind me of the ocean. The sea is one of my favorite themes and colors to work around! I can just imagine the sunlight filtering through the blue waters and a school of silver fish swimming among a forest of kelp.

I made time for a little beading session over the weekend. It ended up being a work of favorites!  I pulled out these African recycled glass beads from my stash. These have become a  favorite as of late. I got them at a local bead shop. I love the color, the matte finish and the organic shape of them. They remind me of sea glass, which I just LOVE!!! I want to start adding some of my favorite art beads to my work, so I pulled out this Round Rabbit ceramic button that I've been hording...err... holding onto for a while. :) Nancy of Round Rabbit has been a favorite ceramic artist and jewelry designer for a long time! The blue and green button compliment the beads so well! Another all-time favorite is Hill Tribe Silver! I'm absolutely in love with Thai silver! I wire-wrapped a few silver tube beads with seed bead accents for the dangles. Then, I hand knotted everything up onto some matching blue and green waxed linen cord, of course another favorite material that I love to work with!!!
